Samuel Beckett Bridge - with the Customs House, Liberty Hall and the Spire in the distance
The axis of needle
Otherwise known as the Spire, O'Connell Street.
Taking photos at night in the city can be troublesome. You can, too often, attract the wrong kind of attention...
Last night was different though. Over about a two hour period I was approached by 5 different people...all of whom were just interested in having a chat about photography, or asking me about some of the places I was photographing.
Maybe I've become too cynical. I inevitably assume the worst...most the time though, people are sound. Even in the city.
The National Museum
Kildare Street. One of my very favourite places. What amazing treasures lie within.
Bachelor's Way
Off middle Abbey Street.
There's something I love about old laneways. They're a remnant of the past. They open up potential for commercial activity behind the fancy shopfronts on the main streets and help make large city blocks more porous.
Modern large scale urban developments rarely allow for connections through a block. It just doesn't make commercial sense most of the time.
Come to think about it, contrary to their appearance most of the time, they're a luxury...
Setanta Place
Off Kildare Street.
Friday night in town. Localised spots heaving with revellers...getting messy at this stage.
I came across Setanta Place. Nothing to it really, totally dead at this hour of a Friday evening.
But it was nice. Struck me how calm it was. You could have heard a pin drop.
Ussher Library - Detail
Nassau Street, by McCullough Mulvin Architects. I'm a big fan of this building.
I love the way it's angular forms interact with the streetscape. It's a beautiful piece of work.
Dun Laoghaire
As seen from the legendary 40 foot. After 20 odd years of living in this city this was my first ever time here. It felt like I was walking on hallowed ground...
I see the attraction. What a beautiful place.
Morning Star Avenue

The how's and whys
Really enjoyable evening yesterday in the company of Amelia Stein RHA and a bunch of the photographers whose work was selected for the Annual Exhibition. We had the chance to review the photographic work on show and discussed the inspiration and techniques behind it, providing a fascinating insight into the working methods of the artists involved. Inspiring stuff...
Catherine Lane
Off Constitution Hill. Looking up at the southern end of the bus depot at Broadstone. Big changes afoot in the area. This will soon be a new part of the city.
