Looking south from Evergreen Street, at the junction with Barrack Street. From c. 1200 to 1690, Barrack Street was the main southern approach road into the walled town of Cork. The street is names after the star shaped fortification of Elizabeth Fort named after Queen Elizabeth I, which once protected an English garrison in the city
